Belles Lettres

Belles Lettres was part of the 2014 Fall Fashion Gala, which invites fashion designers to collaborate with NYC Ballet’s choreographers and costume shop to create new ballets. Choreographed by Justin Peck with costumes designed by Mary Katrantzou, this costume design required flesh-tone fabrics which would seemingly disappear when worn, the body acting as a host for the embroidered letters to dance around. From NYCB : “Layering [César] Franck's lyrical score with Mary Katrantzou's intricately embroidered lace-lettered garments, Belles-Lettres is one of Peck's most amorous ballets, replete with swooning pas de deux that build to an emotional climax.”
